The honest take
Capella Singapore runs $1,218 a night against $414 at JW Marriott South Beach, and that gap buys Sentosa seclusion, beach access, three pools and a proper spa versus a downtown tower near Marina Bay. Capella is the more special building and the better place for a slow, indulgent stay. South Beach is the sharper booking if you want central Singapore, a rooftop, and change left over from a thousand dollars. Both are 5-star and both rate well, so this is really about geography and pace, not quality.
The look and the feel
Capella Singapore
Capella occupies two 1880s British colonial buildings restored and extended by Norman Foster, and it shows in the proportions: deep verandahs, black-and-white timber detailing, then Foster's low glass-and-stone wings sinking into the rainforest behind. The lobby is dim and cool, all dark wood and stone against the Sentosa greenery outside, with the sea or jungle visible from most rooms. Public spaces are quiet rather than grand, built for guests who came to disappear into the spa or the pools rather than be seen. It draws an older, moneyed, honeymoon-and-anniversary crowd who don't need to be near the city.
Couples and travellers who want a rainforest-and-beach resort feel without leaving Singapore, and don't mind being 6km from the centre.
JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach
South Beach sits on Beach Road in the arts and cultural district, a glassy modern tower with two sky gardens and twin infinity pools strung between blocks, closer in spirit to a contemporary business hotel than a resort. Rooms are stylish in the expected JW Marriott way: clean lines, neutral palettes, big windows over the skyline. The energy here is urban and efficient, guests heading out to the National Gallery, Marina Bay Sands and the Flyer rather than lingering in the room. It's a hotel built for being in Singapore, not away from it.
City-break travellers who want a smart, well-located base near Marina Bay with a rooftop and pools, at roughly a third of the price.
At $414, South Beach gives up pet-friendliness, a hot tub, golf access and beach frontage that Capella has; what it gains instead is its own rooftop, which Capella lacks.
Capella is the more beautiful and characterful place to actually be, thanks to Foster's handling of colonial architecture against rainforest, though South Beach wins on sheer convenience for seeing the city.

Nice hotel, they have nice food, great breakfast food selection. Even though breakfast tends to be busy. Amazing amenities from the pool to the fitness area. They have nice cozy bar inside the hotel and one just next door to the hotel. Seamless checking in and out.
