The honest take
Cheval Blanc Paris is the more expensive and more spectacular booking at $4,087 a night, with two pools, a spa and three restaurants on the Quai du Louvre. Prince de Galles is $3,028, in Art Deco form on Avenue George V near the Champs-Elysées, with a strong 9.2 rating from 183 reviews against Cheval Blanc's single review. Book Cheval Blanc for the building and the view of the Seine; book Prince de Galles if you want a five-star with a long, proven track record and a bar to sit in.
The look and the feel
Cheval Blanc Paris
Cheval Blanc occupies the old La Samaritaine department store, its interiors done by Peter Marino in a mix of Art Nouveau bones and contemporary polish, all curved staircases, pale stone and huge windows looking straight onto the Seine and Pont Neuf. The scale is enormous by Paris standards, more palace-hotel-as-museum than intimate townhouse, with a spa and two pools tucked into the lower floors. It draws a crowd that wants the newest, most photographed address in the city rather than old-money quiet.
Guests who want the most architecturally dramatic new-build luxury hotel in Paris and don't mind paying for novelty over a track record.
Prince de Galles
Prince de Galles is a 1920s Art Deco hotel on Avenue George V, all geometric mosaic floors, a courtyard with a mosaic-tiled fountain, and a restrained gold-and-cream palette that has been kept rather than replaced. It sits in the Golden Triangle among the couture houses, a five-minute walk from the Champs-Elysées, and the bar has the low-lit, dark-wood feel of a hotel that has been doing this since before anyone called it a Luxury Collection property. It suits guests who want period Paris glamour with a settled, dependable service culture behind it.
Guests who want proven, classic Art Deco Paris in the heart of the shopping district, with a pet-friendly policy and a proper bar.
Prince de Galles, the cheaper of the two, has no listed pool or spa to match Cheval Blanc's, though it adds a bar and pet-friendliness that Cheval Blanc's list lacks.
Cheval Blanc is the more spectacular building, but Prince de Galles is the more beautiful room to actually sit in, its Art Deco detailing settled and coherent where Cheval Blanc still reads as a very expensive renovation.

“Fabulous hotel! Will not be disappointed.”
Cheval Blanc guests report a uniformly outstanding experience, while Prince de Galles guests are largely positive but several cite staffing and check-in issues that dampen satisfaction.
4 night stay in August. Excellent customer service, including at reception, concierge, and bellhop. We don't usually use concierge at hotels but they were extremely helpful in quickly arranging tickets for us to sold out tourist attractions. Small room but comfortable bed and clean bed. Only downside was not having my Marriot nightly upgrade award honored, even though the Marriott app showed availability in highe

“I guess it’s our first and last time there!”
I guess we are used to different kind of service in Paris. The location is good, the hotel offers reasonable rooms but overall service needs huge improvement. The concierge needs proper staffing, the reception needs proper staffing, the only place that has good staffing is the restaurant. The hotel as is the case with many hotels in Paris is quite old but the rooms relatively ok apart from the bathroom in the suite
