Ohla Barcelona is $366 a night with a 9.2 rating from 1,451 reviews, a rooftop pool and terrace, and dining from chef Romain Fornell, right on Via Laietana in the Gothic Quarter. Cotton House is $402, rated 9.1 from far fewer reviews, and its facility list notes parking and a rooftop that Ohla's own listing doesn't flag, though Ohla's about text describes its own rooftop pool directly. For most visitors Ohla is the sharper booking: cheaper, better attended, and built around a genuine rooftop and kitchen. Cotton House wins if you want the quieter, more intimate historic building with a library and seasonal pool tucked into the Eixample.
Cotton House occupies the former headquarters of the Association of Cotton House Manufacturers, and that institutional past shows in the bones: high ceilings, formal proportions, a sense of a building that once meant business. The public rooms lean into old-world charm, lounges and a library done up with the kind of textiles and dark wood you'd expect from a mercantile palace turned hotel. A sixth-floor gym and massage room and a seasonal outdoor pool sit above the street noise of Gran Via, giving it a rooftop retreat feel without being a full rooftop bar scene. It suits a guest who wants Eixample grandeur and quiet corners over spectacle.
Cotton House suits travellers who want a quieter, history-steeped Eixample hotel with a proper library and lounges rather than a rooftop scene.
Ohla sits on Via Laietana, the wide boulevard cut through the Gothic Quarter in the early twentieth century, putting it right at the seam between medieval Barcelona and the modern grid. The listing centres on a rooftop pool and chill-out terrace with skyline views, plus dining and cocktails overseen by chef Romain Fornell across La Plassohla and the rooftop bar. It reads as a hotel built for its terrace and its kitchen, the kind of place where the evening migrates upward as the city lights come on. Proximity to Palau de la Música and the old town gives it a livelier, more touristed street presence than Cotton House's Eixample block.
Ohla suits travellers who want a rooftop pool, a name chef's cooking, and a base in the thick of the Gothic Quarter's landmarks.
Ohla's own facility list shows no gaps against Cotton House, so the cheaper price here doesn't cost you anything on paper; the real difference is address and atmosphere, not amenities.
Ohla's rooftop pool and terrace, paired with dining from a known chef, make it the more theatrical and photogenic place to actually spend an evening, while Cotton House offers the quieter historical charm of its library and lounges.

Nothing on our list that Cotton House Hotel lacks.
“Absolutely stunningly beautiful property. This property deserves 10 stars.the decor was pure perfection and the staff was exceptional. Wait, must copy exactly. Absolutely stunningly beautiful property.”
“This hotel is in the perfect locaton and walkable to many great sites.”
Cotton House guests come away happier overall thanks to consistently praised decor and staff, whereas Ohla guests report more mixed experiences with dark decor, lifts and inconsistent breakfast quality.
“Gorgeous property that feels 5 star.”
Very lux. The room was perfectly appointed and the staff is friendly and helpful.
“Beautiful property but terrible service”
This is such a shame as the hotel is gorgeous. Room is lovely. Aircon worked great. Linens were high quality. Stayed 3 nights in a Tafetan Suite on a cash stay. No points, no upgrades, etc. Pool is too small for the hotel so people sit on the deck making the space crowded and not very relaxing. After waiting 45 minutes for drink service at the pool today, I left the pool and went down to the bar to order drinks.
“Perfection”
Absolutely stunningly beautiful property. This property deserves 10 stars. The decor was pure perfection and the staff was exceptional.
Honestly nothing
Staff and homeless around the facility
“If you like, black & shiny with a great location, Then this hotel is for you. If you prefer a more traditional feel”
The location was excellent along with the staff.
The decor was very dark and shiny and the lighting was not good. The corridors were very dark, not great for accessibility and there were only 2 lifts which were very small for the size of the hotel. The breakfast also let the hotel down, overall we felt the price per night didn’t reflect the hotel standard.
“Perfect start to a Barcelona vacation”
This hotel was perfect! From the moment we stepped thru the front door, we knew that we had made the right decision. The staff is outstanding! This was our first time in Barcelona. This hotel is in the perfect locaton and walkable to many great sites. Awesome breakfast on-site. This is a perfect start to your Barcelona vacation.
This is a perfect hotel. Nothing to complain about here.
