Book the Sofitel Le Faubourg unless the George V's pool, spa and Le Cinq are the point of the trip. At $987 against $3318 a night, the Sofitel is the rational choice for anyone who wants a genuinely beautiful five-star room near the Champs-Élysées without paying palace rates. The George V justifies its price with scale and ceremony rather than any single feature the Sofitel lacks outright, bar the indoor pool. The George V is the more spectacular room to stand in, but the Sofitel's haute couture interiors are the more interesting design to actually live with for a night.
