The honest take
Book the Grand Hôtel Du Palais Royal: it's cheaper at $904 against $1,740, rated a perfect 10 across 527 reviews versus 8.5 from just 53, and it has a spa and fitness room that the Montmartre hotel lacks. Hôtel Particulier Montmartre has its own quiet appeal, but on the numbers alone this isn't close. The only reason to choose Montmartre is if you specifically want its garden and hillside seclusion over the Palais Royal's central polish.
The look and the feel
Hôtel Particulier Montmartre
This is a secluded pavilion up a private allée in Montmartre, one of a handful of hidden houses behind gates off Avenue Junot, the kind of address that trades visibility for calm. Expect a garden you can actually sit in, a small bar for a quiet cocktail, and rooms that lean toward simple comfort rather than spectacle, with air conditioning, a desk, a TV. The about copy reads like a discreet guesthouse rather than a grand hotel: continental breakfast, fax and photocopying mentioned in the same breath as room service, which tells you this is intimate and a touch old-fashioned rather than lavish.
Right for someone who wants Montmartre's hillside quiet, a private garden, and total anonymity behind a gate.
Grand Hôtel Du Palais Royal
An eighteenth-century grand hotel steps from the arcades of the Palais Royal, with fine art on the walls and a spa by Holidermie tucked into the building's bones. This is the kind of address where the Comédie-Française and the Louvre are a short walk away, and the rooms are pitched as designer spaces, some with views over Paris rooftops and monuments. The scale is bigger too, with 527 reviews behind that 10/10 rating suggesting a hotel used to hosting a steady flow of guests rather than a handful, and a breakfast buffet and à la carte restaurant that point to a fuller, more hotel-like day than a boutique pavilion offers.
Right for someone who wants central Paris grandeur, a spa, and a hotel confident enough to have 527 reviews back up its claims.
Hôtel Particulier Montmartre gives up a spa and a fitness room, and asks nearly double the price for a far thinner review base to back its 8.5 rating.
The Grand Hôtel Du Palais Royal is the more beautiful place to actually be, an eighteenth-century building with real art and a central Paris setting that Montmartre's discreet pavilion, charming as it is, cannot match in scale or occasion.

From arrival to check out the hotel did not disappoint us. We were well cared for, including front desk at check in and the concierge who answered our many questions about tours, transportation, directions, restaurants, etc. Germane was especially helpful and very pleasant to talk to. The superior room was very comfortable and roomy enough. Coffee maker and mini fridge are provided. Breakfast in the restaurant was go
