Book the Okura Amsterdam unless you specifically want the hot tub and the Amstel's riverside grandeur, because both hold a 9.2 from guests and the Okura is $193 a night cheaper. The Amstel sits directly on the Amstel River with panoramic views; the Okura is 1.5km away in De Pijp, overlooking the canals from height rather than at water level. Both have indoor pools, spas and multiple dining outlets, including the Okura's Michelin-starred Ciel Bleu. The only listed gap is the Amstel's hot tub, which the Okura doesn't have.

Hotel Okura Amsterdam
The Okura is a 1971 tower on the edge of De Pijp, built with a Japanese-Dutch clientele in mind and still feeling like a piece of that era: dark wood, low horizontal lines, a lobby that favours quiet materials over gilt. Ciel Bleu, the two-Michelin-star restaurant on the 23rd floor, gives you the view the Amstel gets at ground level, just higher up and glassier. It reads less like a monument and more like a well-run machine for business travellers and food pilgrims, with a sushi bar and teppanyaki room adding to the sense of a hotel built around its kitchens.

“A great experience”
We had a great stay at the Okura! The hospitality was truly exceptional. Nico (Nicolas)at the Camelia really made us feel at home and had great suggestions for our trip.Nigel and Caroline et al at the the concierge desk were very helpful. Please tell Nigel that we did make it to the restaurant near the museum. Just perfect! We really enjoyed Captain Mikes canal tour. All of the staff went out of their way to be helpf

The service provided to us was extra ordinary. Started with warm welcome from Ashraf at the door to lovely check in by Aicha and Ezra. Were very attentive. Same for check out with Rochanie. Big thanks also to Roxana who prepared the room perfectly. If you seek feeling cared for and at home - this is the place to stay!

“Luxury service at the highest level”
Great care is given to all guests. When I arrived the front desk checked me in immediately and when I requested help with a dinner reservation pre-arrival they arranged a spot for me at the Yamazato Restaurant, a Michelin 1 star. While it was listed as full they double checked the waitlist and found a cancellation that evening. Amazing service, the 23rd floor bar staff was fabulous. The restaurant was top marks. W
