Moshe Safdie's three towers holding up SkyPark are one of the most recognisable silhouettes in modern architecture, a Lego-like cantilever that turned a casino resort into a skyline. Inside, the scale is punishing in a deliberate way: acres of marble in the atrium, a canal running through The Shoppes below with gondola rides past Chanel and Louis Vuitton, and a casino floor that never quite goes dark. Rooms lean dark wood and gold accent, built for guests who came for the infinity pool on the roof and the blackjack tables downstairs, not for quiet. It's Vegas grammar rewritten in Singaporean money and better engineering.
Anyone who wants the rooftop pool photograph, casino access, and a hotel that is itself the tourist attraction.
Mandarin Oriental
Mandarin Oriental Singapore is a curved tower over Marina Bay with a more traditional five-star grammar: warm timber, orchid arrangements, an atrium lobby that stays hushed rather than theatrical. The outdoor pool cantilevers out with cityscape views back toward the bay, and the spa runs the long, dim-lit, eucalyptus-scented routine you'd expect from the brand. It draws a business and older-money leisure crowd, connected directly into Marina Square's mall and a short walk from City Hall MRT, so the energy outside is shopping-centre calm rather than casino buzz.
Guests who want a quieter, more classically luxurious stay with spa and pool, and don't need the spectacle.
