At $248 versus $1,726 a night, Tomtom Suites is the obvious choice for almost anyone, and it carries a 9.8 rating across 616 reviews to the Peninsula's 9.4 across 54. The Peninsula justifies its price with a pool, fitness centre, parking and the polish of an international five-star brand on the Bosphorus waterfront. Tomtom gives up those facilities but not much else, working from a converted townhouse a few streets up the hill in Galata. The public spaces are large, cool and hushed in the way big international hotels are, built for business travellers and cruise-adjacent tourists rather than anyone wandering in off the street. Topside Bar on the roof is the draw, looking across to the old city and the Bosphorus traffic. It reads as competent global luxury rather than something specific to Istanbul.
Travellers who want a pool, a gym and full five-star service on the water, and who don't mind paying for it.
Tomtom Suites
Tomtom Suites sits in a converted 19th-century building in Galata's steep, narrow streets, the kind of neighbourhood with cats on stone steps and laundry strung between windows. Rooms lean into Carrara marble bathrooms and private spa baths, a boutique gesture rather than a hotel-chain one, and the rooftop terrace looks out over the rooftops to the Marmara and Sultanahmet's domes. Nicole Restaurant downstairs does a Turkish-Mediterranean menu that changes often. It has the feel of a well-run guesthouse that happened to get very good bathrooms, not a grand hotel.
Anyone who wants a characterful, well-located boutique stay in Galata without spending like it's a landmark hotel.
Tomtom has no bar on-site, and lacks the pool, fitness centre and valet parking that come with the Peninsula's much higher rate and scale.
Tomtom is the more atmospheric place to actually be, small-scale and street-real in a way the Peninsula's polished internationalism can't match, even if the Peninsula's building and waterfront setting are the grander architectural statement.

Everything! The staff from reception to the roof top restaurant are very friendly and helpful, great communication even before the checkin. Rooms as they are in the photos and then some. The extra details also turn this place into something special, tips and tea and pillow spray for a goodnight sleep, pillow options, evening music on the TV, bath salts. We had a lovely welcome letter for us as it was an anniversary
