Book the JW Marriott Isola delle Rose unless you want to be steps from St. Mark's Square at more than four times the cost. At $574 versus $2,560 a night, the JW Marriott gives you a self-contained island resort with three pools, a spa, four restaurants and three bars, and a 9/10 rating from 965 reviews. The St. Regis has the address and the history but far less on-site and a much smaller review base. For most travellers the JW Marriott's facilities and value make it the easier recommendation; the St. Regis is for those paying specifically for the Piazza San Marco doorstep.
The St. Regis Venice
The St. Regis occupies a former patrician palazzo directly on the Grand Canal near San Marco, and its interiors trade on that history: high coffered ceilings, damask panelling, chandeliers, and a lobby that feels like stepping into a Venetian drawing room rather than a hotel. Rooms carry Frette linens and down comforters, the sort of quiet, old-money comfort that doesn't need to announce itself. Gio's Restaurant and its two bars sit within earshot of gondola traffic on the canal, and the whole building leans into the theatre of central Venice - stone, water light through tall windows, the hush of a palace rather than the polish of a modern hotel.
Travellers who want to walk out the door into San Marco and are paying for that proximity and pedigree, not for pools or spa acreage.
JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa
The JW Marriott sits on its own island, Isola delle Rose, out in the lagoon, a former hospital complex converted into a low-rise resort with gardens, olive groves and even a church on the grounds. It reads as a retreat rather than a city hotel: three outdoor pools, a lagoon-view spa, four restaurants and three bars spread across the property, with rooftop pool decks and garden-view rooms giving it a resort sprawl that no central Venice address could offer. The mood is open air and greenery against water, a deliberate contrast to the tight stone streets of San Marco a boat ride away.
Travellers who want resort space, pools and multiple dining options at a fraction of the cost, and don't mind a boat shuttle into the historic centre.
Choosing the St. Regis over the JW Marriott means giving up pet-friendly stays and one of the two properties' extra bars, plus the pools, spa scale and multiple restaurants that come with the island resort's grounds.
The St. Regis is the more beautiful place to simply stand in, given its Grand Canal palazzo setting and period detailing, but the JW Marriott is the more interesting place to spend a few days, with its gardens, water and space to spread out.

JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa
“Lovely hotel, in a beautiful location. Great room!”
The island was just gorgeous, it was an oasis after the hustle and bustle of the main island. The adult only pool was fantastic with a view across to St Mark’s! The staff were exceptional from Vincenza at reception to Teresa in the breakfast area. Nothing was too much trouble!
The bathroom amenities, we had to ask for extra shower caps, rather than them being replaced. The fruit at the breakfast buffet was the same for 5 days( rockmelon and pineapple). Perhaps some watermelon would be nice as a change.
“Heerlijk verblijf maar wel erg amerikaans”
De ligging is top! Zeker met kids kan je naar de stad en er weer uit.
De family pool is echt mega klein en is ver weg gestopt. Gezien de oppervlakte van het hotel is het een grap.
“A Wonderful Stay with Just One Small Area for Improvement”
We had a fantastic stay at the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a luxurious escape in Venice. From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptional. Check-in was warm, attentive and professional, making us feel genuinely welcome. We stayed in a beautiful Junior Suite, which was spacious, stylish and immaculately presented. We did have one minor maintenance issue
