The honest take

Book the West Hollywood EDITION if you want the better-known design statement and to save nearly $300 a night; book the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills if a hot tub and a slightly higher guest rating matter more than the Sunset Strip address. Both sit at five stars with review counts in the same range, but the Waldorf edges ahead on guest satisfaction (9 vs 8.4) while costing $898 against the EDITION's $601. They're 3.3 km apart, so it's really a choice between Beverly Hills quiet and West Hollywood buzz rather than convenience.

The look and the feel

Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills

The Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills occupies a glass tower on Wilshire, all crisp geometry and gold-toned interiors that lean into old Hollywood glamour without the actual Art Deco bones of the original New York property. Public rooms run to marble floors, brass fittings and low lighting designed for evening cocktails rather than daytime lounging. Rooms come with flat-screen TVs and, in some cases, private balconies looking out over the Beverly Hills flats. It draws a guest who wants five-star ceremony delivered with total consistency: a concierge desk, a pool deck, a hot tub, the sense of being looked after rather than being somewhere interesting.

The Waldorf suits guests who want established five-star ritual and quiet Beverly Hills mornings, with a hot tub to unwind in.

The West Hollywood EDITION

Ian Schrager's EDITION brand built its reputation on stripped-back, architecturally serious interiors, and the West Hollywood outpost on Sunset follows that formula: pale timber, sculptural lighting, a lobby that reads more like a design gallery than a hotel front desk. The listing mentions billiards and a shared lounge alongside the expected fitness centre and business centre, suggesting a property built for guests who socialise in the public spaces rather than retreat to their rooms. Sunset Boulevard outside means nightlife on foot, a younger, more fashion-conscious crowd, and a rooftop that this hotel has and the Waldorf doesn't.

The EDITION suits guests who want design-forward atmosphere, a livelier street scene, and a rooftop, at a lower nightly rate.

At $601 against $898, the EDITION gives up the hot tub the Waldorf offers, a fair swap for anyone who'd rather have the rooftop and the savings.

The EDITION is the more interesting room to sit in — Schrager's design language has more to say than the Waldorf's competent but generic luxury dressing.

“unique charm woven into every design detail”

We stayed here in March 2023, and this hotel is a classic Waldorf Astoria property with unique charm woven into every design detail. We stayed in a corner suite, and the hotel thoughtfully welcomed us with chocolate-covered strawberries. Their shuttle service made dining and shopping around Beverly Hills super convenient. We truly loved every moment of our stay!

The noise, even though I was on the 7th floor, loud noise and sirens was very disturbing for 2 out of the 3 nights I stayed there.
