Book the Ritz-Carlton Central Park: cheaper at $1,418 versus $1,585, carries a 9/10 guest score across 285 reviews against the Waldorf's unrated 73, and adds breakfast that the Waldorf doesn't offer. The Waldorf counters with more history and a boutique spa, but on the numbers alone the Ritz wins. Both sit a kilometre apart in Midtown, so location is a wash; this is a straight facilities-and-value call.
Waldorf Astoria New York
The Waldorf Astoria reopened after a lengthy restoration that kept its Art Deco bones intact: the famous lobby clock, the mosaic floors, the starburst ceiling motifs from the 1931 original. Park Avenue outside is broad and formal, all brass canopies and doormen, and the interiors lean into that grandeur with marble, gilt trim and long sightlines through the public rooms. It's the kind of hotel where the building itself is the attraction, restored rather than reinvented, and it draws guests who want the pedigree of old New York.
Guests who want the actual Art Deco landmark and don't mind paying for the history.
The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park
The Ritz-Carlton Central Park trades landmark status for a townhouse feel: rooms styled like a private residence rather than a grand hotel, with the pitch being those Central Park views from the higher floors. It sits right at the park's southern edge, so the light and outlook differ from Midtown's canyon streets a block or two north. The listing emphasises a curated, residential design language over Deco spectacle, and the location puts Fifth Avenue and the theatre district within an easy walk.
Guests who want park views, a residential feel and a slightly better-reviewed stay for less.
The Waldorf skips breakfast where the Ritz includes it, and otherwise the two are matched on listed facilities, so the gap is really about park proximity and guest sentiment rather than amenities.
The Waldorf is the more characterful building, full stop, restored Deco detail that the Ritz's residential styling doesn't attempt to match.

“Do Not Stay Here - Horrible Service and Outdated Rooms”
I’ve been staying at this hotel consistently for over 20 years. Unfortunately, this hotel has gone downhill fast and cannot compete with other properties (e.g., Baccarat, Four Seasons). Over my last few stays, I’ve experienced many service lapses, but to name a few: -Club Lounge employee got upset at me and my children, and started talking poorly and bashing their management in front of my family. This all stemmed f
“Oddly Frustrating Stay”
Let's start with the positives: the RC Central Park is impeccably located. Can't do much better than 59th St at 6th Ave. The staff are well trained and courteous, even opening the doors in unison. The hotel feels exclusive and intimate; this is not The Plaza with tourists running around. However, there are problems. I booked one night at a club level room. At check-in the agent claimed I had not booked a club
