The honest take

At nearly identical rates, this comes down to temperament rather than value. Bellagio has the fountains, the botanical gardens, a casino floor and golf, plus a much larger review base backing its 8.7 rating. Waldorf Astoria has no casino at all, sits slightly further from the Strip's centre, and trades gaming noise for a 27,000 square foot spa and quieter public rooms. Book Bellagio for the classic Vegas experience, Waldorf Astoria if you want a five-star stay without the slot machines.

The look and the feel

Bellagio

Bellagio opened in 1998 with interiors overseen by the design team behind the Dale Chihuly glass ceiling in the lobby, a canopy of hand-blown coloured petals that sets the tone before you reach the front desk. The conservatory and botanical gardens change with the seasons, tended by an in-house horticulture team, and the whole property is built around theatre: the fountains outside choreographed to music, the casino floor humming at all hours, marble bathrooms and heavy drapery in the rooms that feel more Mediterranean resort than desert tower. It draws people who want to be in the middle of the action, gamblers and honeymooners and conference crowds who never plan to leave the building.

Bellagio suits people who want the full Strip spectacle, gaming, and a hotel that functions as a destination in itself.

Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas

Waldorf Astoria occupies the top floors of a glass tower set back from the Strip's noise, and it deliberately withholds a casino, which changes the air of the place immediately. The eighth-floor terrace with its lap pools, hot tubs and cabanas has long mountain views rather than crowd views, and the spa runs to 27,000 square feet with heat and water circuits and a Zen Foot Spa. Twist by Pierre Gagnaire brings French fusion cooking with an open kitchen and city views, and Sky Bar and afternoon tea in the lobby lounge suggest a hotel built for people who want Vegas at a remove, calm rooms, muted palettes, floor-to-ceiling windows.

Waldorf Astoria suits people who want a five-star Strip stay without gambling noise, prioritising spa, quiet dining and views.

Waldorf Astoria has no casino and no golf, so if either is part of the plan, Bellagio is the only option between the two.

Bellagio's Chihuly ceiling and botanical conservatory make it the more theatrical, memorable building to walk through, even if Waldorf Astoria's calmer tower has its own appeal for a quieter stay.

“Winderful except for the permeating smoke smell”

Beautiful bathroom

The AC brings upstairs the air smelling if cigarettes. It’s very noticeable and not a good feature.

“An Oasis in the Desert”

This was the most seamless hotel stay we have experienced in a long time. Every detail was perfect from check-in to checkout. It's a beautiful, clean, tranquil place steps away from the casinos and attractions, and everything else Vegas has to offer. But when you return at night, it's quiet. We stayed in a spacious, junior king suite with a city view. It was lovely, with a large bathroom that had a separate shower

“Will definitely consider other hotels next time”

Very Clean. Great location.

Absolutely not flexible on booking cancellation with refund or even reschedule. I had emergency situation- they won’t consider. Pool closes too early, at 6 pm. Additional charge for late check out, additional bed etc. on the top of basic fees.
