Book Encore at Wynn: it's cheaper at $313 versus $374, rates higher with guests (9 vs 8.3 across more reviews), and sits on the Strip itself, which is what most people actually want from a Vegas trip. The JW Marriott is off-Strip near Summerlin, a different kind of stay entirely, with a serious spa and pool as its draw. Pick Encore for the Strip and the design; pick the JW if you want distance from the crowds and a resort-spa focus.
Steve Wynn and designer Roger Thomas built Encore as the quieter, more feminine sibling to Wynn next door: floral carpets underfoot, butterscotch and jade tones, a lobby full of natural light pouring through a domed conservatory-style ceiling rather than the usual windowless casino gloom. Suites are large by Strip standards, done in warm woods and floor-to-ceiling glass looking over the pool or the Strip, with a sitting area separated from the bed. Downstairs the crowd skews younger and glossier, drawn by XS and Encore Beach Club, two of the loudest nightclubs on the Strip, so the energy at night is unapologetically nightlife-driven.
People who want to be inside the Strip's nightlife and casino scene without staying at the noisier, more crowded Wynn itself.
The JW Marriott reads as a conventional big American resort rather than a Strip hotel: low-rise, spread out, built around courtyards and an 11,000-square-foot pool with a waterfall rather than a casino floor. The Aquae Sulis Spa, with 36 treatment rooms and in-room two-person spa baths in some categories, is the actual centrepiece here, more country-club than Vegas glamour. It sits miles from the Strip near Summerlin, so the feel is suburban and calm, palm-lined drives and golf-course adjacency rather than neon.
People who want a Las Vegas trip built around spa and pool time and are happy to be a drive from the Strip.
Nothing on the facility lists separates them outright; the real trade-off is that Encore's cheaper rate buys Strip-centre location and nightlife, while the JW's higher price buys the 36-room spa, the bigger resort pool and distance from the casino crowds.
Encore is the more beautiful room to stand in, Roger Thomas's daylight-filled, garden-patterned interiors are a genuine departure from typical casino design, where the JW's resort architecture is comfortable but generic.

“Long black hairs in the shower, attached to what appeared to be a hardened substance near the shower exit.”
Encore's guests come away happier, praising consistently attentive staff and superb pool experience, while JW Marriott's reviews reveal recurring complaints about cleanliness and billing that undercut otherwise positive service.

“amazing resort, just very pricey. excellent hotel gym but DO NOT go 7-9am”
suuuuuuper nice room. we stayed in the Wynn not the newer encore. every restaurant was amazing, the pool and pool service were amazing, every staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. cons: very expensive. ie $30+ for a sandwich. basically everything is 2-3x what you'd pay off the Strip [i'm a local, we were on a staycation]. other thing is i'm a gym rat, been to literally hundreds of gyms esp during my many years o
Great pool and location, comfortable bed and room size

“Five Star Stay!”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The staff was extremely attentive, professional, and friendly. We were greeted by name each time we arrived and departed from the hotel. The valet staff Paul, and Sam, are five star employees and go over and beyond for their guests. Kevin in The Earl Grey Cafe was excellent also!
