Book the Fontainebleau if you want the full Miami Beach resort machine at $365 a night, with six pools, a nightclub and nine restaurants. Book Faena at $964 if you want a smaller, design-led hotel with a higher guest rating and a much quieter, more curated feel. Both sit on Collins Avenue about a kilometre apart, so location isn't the deciding factor, budget and temperament are. Faena's rating (9 vs 8) and its far smaller review base suggest a more consistent, intimate guest experience, at nearly three times the price.
Faena occupies a 1930s Art Deco shell reworked by Alan Faena with interiors by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, so it reads more like a stage set than a hotel: gold leaf, red velvet, a bronze mammoth by Damien Hirst in the lobby, tropical murals underfoot. The Carrara marble bathrooms and the low, dim glow of Los Fuegos give it a theatrical, slightly decadent hush rather than the bright resort clatter you'd expect on this strip. It draws a design-conscious, older-money crowd who want to be seen but not jostled.
Faena suits couples and design travellers who want a compact, atmospheric hotel and don't mind paying for it.
The Fontainebleau is the real Morris Lapidus original from 1954, all sweeping curves, the bow-tie marble floor in the lobby, and a grand double staircase built for entrances. It has been expanded and modernised over decades into a genuine resort complex, six pools, cabanas, a nightclub, nine restaurants, so the energy is loud, social and constant rather than hushed. It suits families, groups and anyone who wants the classic mid-century Miami spectacle rather than a boutique retreat.
The Fontainebleau suits groups, families and anyone who wants pools, nightlife and dining choice within one sprawling resort.
At $365 the Fontainebleau gives up nothing on the facility list except golf, which Faena has and it doesn't; the real gap is intimacy and design polish, not amenities.
Faena is the more beautiful place to actually sit still in, but the Fontainebleau's Lapidus lobby and staircase are the more genuinely important piece of architecture on the strip.

“Staff was rude.”
Faena guests come away happier overall, praising the spectacular Obsession show and service, while Fontainebleau guests report noise and rude housekeeping undercutting their stay.

“Once again: the hotel guest is not treated as it should be.”
Location was good and the hotel has nice restaurants and decor.
The hotel guests are treated as it should be. For example to reserve a table at the bar there is minimum charge between 225 to 1,500 per person depending on the day of the week. This is ridiculous.
“Obsessed & Speechless”
The Acts for Obsession at Faena Theatre were absolutely incredible. I recommend everyone to go and see it. Me and my friend had the most amazing time . Such a diverse range of talent. Sophia’s vocals and stage performance/presence, alongside all the beautiful range of acts of dancers/aerialists and violinist had everyone’s jaws on the floor! The bartenders really took great care and were very time efficient with ever
