The honest take

Nobu Hotel Miami Beach is the sane booking here: $364 against Faena's $964, a higher review count, and four pools plus a fitness centre with trainers on the facility list. Faena earns its 9/10 and its price with a more theatrical building and Baz Luhrmann's design work, but on distance and neighbourhood the two sit 1.3km apart on the same Collins Avenue strip. Unless the Faena's specific rooms and public spaces matter to you, Nobu delivers the beachfront five-star experience for far less outlay.

The look and the feel

Faena Miami Beach

Faena occupies the old Saxony Hotel shell, gutted and rebuilt by Alan Faena with interiors and theatrical flourishes overseen by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, so the lobby has gold leaf, a Damien Hirst gilded mammoth skeleton, and a cabaret theatre that runs actual shows. Rooms lean cream and gold with Carrara marble bathrooms, and the restaurants (Los Fuegos, an open-fire grill by Francis Mallmann, and Pao's Asian-Latin cooking) are destinations in their own right, not afterthoughts. It draws a crowd that wants to be seen having a good time, and the whole place feels like a set built to be photographed.

Faena suits guests who want the design and the show to be part of the holiday, and who don't mind paying for both.

Nobu Hotel Miami Beach

Nobu Miami sits inside the old Perry South Beach tower at 45th and Collins, further north and quieter than the main strip, with the restaurant side run by Nobu Matsuhisa's team doing the familiar miso black cod and rock shrimp tempura. Rooms are done in warm wood furniture with Natura Bissé amenities and Nespresso machines, more understated hotel-chic than art installation. Four pools and ocean-plus-intracoastal views give it a resort sprawl that Faena, on a tighter oceanfront footprint, doesn't attempt.

Nobu suits guests who want a genuinely nice five-star beach stay, good sushi, and multiple pools, without paying for spectacle.

Nothing structural is missing at Nobu according to the lists; the gap is Faena's specific cultural cachet, its Mallmann and Luhrmann-branded spaces, and a higher guest rating built on that particular experience rather than any hard amenity Nobu lacks.

Faena is the more beautiful and stranger place to actually stand in, with its gilded mammoth and cabaret theatre; Nobu is better designed as a hotel to simply live in for a week.

“The Acts for Obsession at Faena Theatre were absolutely incredible.”

Nobu Hotel Miami Beach

“okay”

Generally good service perfect staff perfect night in hotel great

Pool is extremly dirty and crowded with interesting crowd Pool also extremly old, we used different pools of different hotels

8/10

“Once again: the hotel guest is not treated as it should be.”

Location was good and the hotel has nice restaurants and decor.

The hotel guests are treated as it should be. For example to reserve a table at the bar there is minimum charge between 225 to 1,500 per person depending on the day of the week. This is ridiculous.

“Obsessed & Speechless”

The Acts for Obsession at Faena Theatre were absolutely incredible. I recommend everyone to go and see it. Me and my friend had the most amazing time . Such a diverse range of talent. Sophia’s vocals and stage performance/presence, alongside all the beautiful range of acts of dancers/aerialists and violinist had everyone’s jaws on the floor! The bartenders really took great care and were very time efficient with ever
