Book The Maybourne Beverly Hills if the trip is about Beverly Hills itself: at $1,050 a night it rates 9.6/10 across 208 reviews and sits on North Canon Drive by the Gardens. The Ritz-Carlton downtown is $858, unrated here but with 131 reviews, and occupies a very different part of the city, 12.4 km away near L.A. Live. They are not really substitutes for each other, since one is a boutique-scale Beverly Hills address and the other a high-rise convention-district hotel with three restaurants. Choose on neighbourhood first, then on the extras the Maybourne carries: pet allowances, a hot tub, golf access and a dedicated bar.
The Maybourne occupies the site of the old Regent Beverly Wilshire annex on North Canon Drive, in the low-rise, hedge-lined heart of Beverly Hills where the shops are Cartier and Chanel rather than chains. Expect a restrained, contemporary interior of pale stone, brass fittings and Frette linens, built around a rooftop pool with the kind of long sightline over the Hollywood Hills that makes the terrace bar the main event at sunset. The Terrace restaurant looks onto Beverly Canon Gardens, a small formal park that gives the whole property a village feel rare for this part of LA. It draws a moneyed, discreet crowd: industry meetings by day, quiet dinners by night, more Bentley than tour bus outside.
Best for those who want Beverly Hills itself, quiet luxury, and a rooftop view over the hills.
The Ritz-Carlton sits on West Olympic Boulevard in the downtown L.A. Live complex, a glass tower rising above Crypto.com Arena and the convention centre, built for scale rather than intimacy. Inside, expect the Ritz-Carlton house style: dark wood, marble lobby floors, designer toiletries and espresso makers in the 123 rooms, plus three restaurants, a poolside bar and stylish lounges that fill with concert and conference crowds. The outdoor pool and spa look toward the downtown skyline rather than hills or gardens, and the energy outside is arena nights and event traffic rather than boutique shopping streets. It suits business travellers, event-goers and anyone wanting downtown's density on their doorstep.
Best for business travellers and event-goers who want downtown density, multiple restaurants and easy arena access.
At $858 versus $1,050, the Ritz-Carlton gives up pet allowances, a hot tub, golf access and a dedicated bar that the Maybourne offers, alongside the more residential, garden-adjacent Beverly Hills setting.
The Maybourne is the more beautiful place to simply sit still in, with its Beverly Hills garden outlook and rooftop calm, while the Ritz-Carlton trades atmosphere for downtown convenience and scale.

“It was the best staycation I have ever had!”
“There was either food or vomit smeared into the cushion chairs around the jacuzzi.”
The Maybourne's guests come away happier overall, as most praise the breakfast, service and location despite one gripe about rude staff, while the Ritz-Carlton has a more mixed record with serious cleanliness and billing complaints from at least one guest.

“Brilliant in its class”
It’s the finest hotel I have been able to stay in my life when I am able to afford.
Pricing but worth it if u can afford it.
“great but staff need an upgrade like the Maybourne in France or Claridges in London.”
breakfast was ok and Location is fantastic.
The staff were not very good, unhelpful, uninterested and rude except for the door staff.
“A Five Star Experience”
We spent a day and half at this hotel over Christmas and absolutely loved every minute. This location is modern and stylish and the staff are polished but also very warm. We enjoyed the Club Lounge and amenities. All were top notch. The staff are so kind and charming. Josh in the Lounge and Harrison at the Front Desk were among our favorites. We enjoyed the easy enclosed walk to the J.W. Lobby and the excellent
