The honest take
The Ritz-Carlton, Jumeirah Beach Walk, is $539 a night and gives you a private beach, six pools, a water park and eight restaurants — a proper resort stay. Raffles Dubai is $279, inland at Wafi, and though it lacks the beach and water park, it is a genuine architectural landmark with its own nightclub and spa. If beach and pool count for anything in your trip, the Ritz-Carlton earns its price; if you want a striking building and a lower rate, Raffles wins on value. They're 24.5km apart and in different worlds — one is a Gulf resort strip, the other sits by Wafi's mall and pyramid skyline.
The look and the feel
The Ritz-Carlton
This is the JBR stretch of Dubai: a low-rise resort compound facing the Gulf, built around the business of sun and water rather than architectural incident. Expect marble lobbies, gold accents, large light-filled atriums and rooms angled for sea views, in the standard high-Ritz-Carlton house style — formal, glossy, built for comfort rather than surprise. The six pools and private beach are the real subject of the property; everything else, the spa, the eight restaurants, exists to keep you from ever needing to leave the grounds.
Best for anyone whose holiday is built around the beach and the pool, especially families wanting a self-contained resort.
Raffles Dubai
Raffles Dubai is unmistakable from the outside — a glass pyramid rising over the Wafi complex, one of the city's odder architectural gestures, echoing ancient Egyptian form in a thoroughly modern skin. Inside, expect the brand's usual mix of colonial references and Middle Eastern ornament: dark wood, patterned marble floors, a soaring atrium lobby that funnels light down through the pyramid's glass skin. It has a nightclub as well as a spa, giving it a different, more urban energy after dark than a beach resort, and it sits attached to the Wafi mall and pyramid-shaped retail arcade, a strange, memorable pocket of the city.
Best for design-curious travellers and nightlife-minded guests who want a landmark building and a lower price, without needing sand.
At $279, Raffles gives up the private beach, the water park and the sheer scale of six pools that the Ritz-Carlton offers, along with several of its eight restaurants and two poolside bars.
Raffles Dubai is the more characterful building to actually stand inside — a pyramid atrium has a strangeness the Ritz-Carlton's polished resort formula doesn't attempt.

This is a tricky review. I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton from 19-24th Sept 2025. On arrival I was told there was renovation work on the beach by the Dubai Government and it was short notice. That may be true but I’m certain they had enough notice to inform me ahead of time but I suspect they didn’t because they knew it would be off-putting so they waited until I arrived. I heard them telling the same thing to guests che
