Rome Cavalieri is $804 a night against the Hassler's $1,671, and for that it gives you a full 2,500 m² wellness centre, indoor pool, tennis courts and the rooftop three-Michelin-star La Pergola. The Hassler is smaller, sits directly atop the Spanish Steps, and has the higher guest rating, but with only 56 reviews behind it that's a thin sample. Hassler Roma
The Hassler occupies one of the great positions in Rome, right at the top of the Spanish Steps, in a building that has been a hotel since the early twentieth century and is still run by the same family. Inside it leans traditional Roman grand hotel: gilt mirrors, red damask, a lobby that feels dressed rather than decorated, and the rooftop Imàgo restaurant with a view over the city's rooftops and domes that needs no filter. It draws guests who want to be in the middle of things, stepping straight out into the crowds and shopping streets below.
Best for anyone who wants to walk out the door onto the Spanish Steps and treats the hotel itself as part of the sightseeing.
At $804 the Cavalieri gives up nothing on the list against the Hassler bar the rooftop restaurant category itself, since it already has pool, spa, tennis and parking the Hassler lacks; what the Hassler buys for its extra $867 is mainly that Spanish Steps address and a rooftop dining room.
The Hassler's position and view over the Steps make it the more thrilling place to simply stand in, though the Cavalieri is the more serene and better-resourced hotel to actually stay at.

“how mean spirited of management (or not to give us a nicer room, given low occupancy and renovations”
the pools
the hotel was 25% occupied yet we were given a room overlooking the car park and a huge mobile phone tower, not overlooking the pools and gardens yet charged over $500! the renovations were not mentioned at time of booking

“Best Hotel in Rome”
This was our favourite hotel during our trip to Italy. Everything was perfect, the staff, the room, the food and quite possibly the best hotel gym we have ever seen. We upgraded our room and recommend using the imperial lounge.
Was quite expensive to park, but you can just leave it on the road.

We have been coming to this hotel for many years, and we absolutely love the service and the staff. However, this time the room was very dirty. There was visible dust and dirty carpet. We have brought it to the attention of the front desk and hope they deep clean the rooms.
