Book the Cavalieri if you want a resort with a pool, tennis courts and La Pergola's three Michelin stars, and don't mind being 4.4 km out of the centre. The St. Regis Rome
The St Regis Rome occupies a late nineteenth-century building by Cesar Ritz near Piazza della Repubblica and the Termini station, all gilt cornices, tall doors and the kind of formal, old-Europe interior the St Regis brand trades on worldwide - chandeliers, heavy drapery, a butler on call. It's a hotel built for arriving by carriage and walking straight into the historic centre, not for lounging by a pool. The public rooms have that stiff, ceremonial hush of a grand nineteenth-century hotel restored rather than reinvented, and the crowd is older, monied, here for the address as much as the room.
Best for anyone who wants to walk out the door into historic Rome and prefers grand, formal hotel theatre to resort facilities.
The St Regis, for its higher price, has no pool or hot tub on site, which the Cavalieri offers along with tennis courts and a 2,500 square metre wellness centre; what you gain instead is a central address and a smaller, more intimate guest count.
The St Regis is the more beautiful room to stand in - a genuine nineteenth-century palazzo interior - but the Cavalieri is the more interesting building to spend a whole stay in, given the view, the pool and La Pergola.

“Best Hotel in Rome”
This was our favourite hotel during our trip to Italy. Everything was perfect, the staff, the room, the food and quite possibly the best hotel gym we have ever seen. We upgraded our room and recommend using the imperial lounge.
Was quite expensive to park, but you can just leave it on the road.
