The honest take
Book the St. Regis if you want a full-service five-star on Reforma with spa, pool, gym and three restaurants at $695 a night. Book La Valise if $1,008 for a tiny, design-forward suite hotel in Roma Norte with Rosetta room service matters more to you than a pool. La Valise scores higher with guests (9.8 vs 9.4) but has a fraction of the facilities and rooms; the St. Regis is the more practical booking for most travellers. The two sit 1.2km apart, in different registers of Mexico City entirely.
The look and the feel
The St. Regis Mexico City
The St. Regis occupies a glass tower on Paseo de la Reforma, the boulevard of roundabouts and embassies, and it plays the part of international grand hotel rather than a specifically Mexican one: marble lobby, a soaring atrium, butlers in morning coats, the kind of hush that comes from double-height ceilings and hard surfaces built to absorb noise rather than make it. The rooms are large, neutral, well-pressed - beige and taupe rather than colour - and the spa and pool sit up high with the kind of views this stretch of Reforma is built for. It is a hotel for people who want the brand to do the thinking.
Business travellers, spa-and-pool seekers, and anyone who wants full five-star infrastructure within the hotel itself.
La Valise Mexico City, Member of Small Luxury Hotels
La Valise is a small, quietly theatrical operation folded into a house on Tonala in Roma Norte, one of the city's most walkable, tree-shaded, mural-and-café neighbourhoods rather than a boulevard of towers. Every suite is decorated differently - the listing itself says so - so you get plaster walls, tile, timber, a terrace here and there, rather than a repeated corporate room type. Room service comes from Rosetta, a genuinely celebrated Roma Norte restaurant, delivered rather than eaten in a hotel dining room, which tells you this place is built around intimacy and a single relationship with the neighbourhood rather than in-house infrastructure.
Design-minded travellers who want a small, individually decorated suite and are happy to explore Roma Norte on foot rather than stay inside the building.
The St. Regis, despite costing less here, is the one with the spa, pool, fitness centre, hot tub, parking and bar; La Valise has none of these on the list, trading them for scale, personal service and its Rosetta room-service arrangement.
La Valise is the more characterful place to actually be, room for room, because no two suites repeat and the building feels inhabited rather than run; the St. Regis is the more comfortable and complete one, but comfort of a kind you could find in any major city.

“Beautiful rooms with friendly and professional staff.”
St. Regis guests come away happier overall, as reviews describe consistently flawless service and no complaints, while La Valise had one guest irritated by petty extra charges despite otherwise glowing praise.
What a wonderful stay! We were upgraded to a beautiful suite room 1001. We also used their airport transportation and Roberto was excellent but so was the other driver. When we arrived the bellmen promptly assisted us with our luggage and we were checkin. We were excited to have seen the nice upgrade (am Ambassador) and they acknowledged my status. The whole stay was magical. The King Cole Bar is a wonderful space

“Treated Like Genuinely Welcomed Guests”
The St. Regis Mexico City is an outstanding hotel, and we can't recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like genuinely welcomed guests. That began at check-in, where the team took real care with our room selection, and it continued throughout our stay — there was always someone asking whether there was anything they could do to make our visit more enjoyable. That kind of consistent, at

“Impeccable rooms, perfect service”
The St Regis has the best service of any hotel in Mexico City. The rooms are impeccable, and the security is top notch. The terrace of the restaurant is lovely for a relaxed brunch any day (or every day) of the week. Special thanks to Iliana at the front desk for her outstanding hospitality and kindness.

“Just... AMAZING”
We had a wonderful stay at La Valise. The entire hotel team is absolutely incredible: always attentive, caring, and available. They organized some amazing experiences for us and truly made our stay unforgettable. A huge thank you to the whole team! I couldn’t recommend this hotel more. Incredible team, incredible hotel, incredible stay!

“Great hotel, but was charged for 2 coffee pods!!”
Great room. Service was good, nothing outstanding. Nice and cute small hotel. However, they charged me $7 for 2 Nespresso pods. Really?? Yes, really!!! With the price of the room, they shouldn’t nickel and dime little stuff. I have never, ever been charged for coffee pods! For that reason, I will look for another option next time!

“Can't wait to be back there”
Beautiful rooms with friendly and professional staff. Excellent location in walking distance to everything we wanted to experience. Memorable experience. Will be back
