The honest take
Book the St. Regis if you want the full five-star apparatus: butler service, spa, three restaurants, two ballrooms, on Reforma for $695. Book Las Alcobas if you want something smaller and quieter in Polanco, with a rooftop the St. Regis lacks, for $899, and a slightly higher guest rating from fewer reviews. The St. Regis is the better value on paper; Las Alcobas is the pricier, more boutique choice for those who want fewer rooms and more design attention per square metre.
The look and the feel
The St. Regis Mexico City
The St. Regis sits on Paseo de la Reforma, the city's grand boulevard, in a tower that trades on the brand's old New York formality translated into Mexican scale: marble lobbies, chandeliers, a butler on every floor, the kind of hush that comes with high ceilings and full-time staff. It's a hotel built for business travel and formal occasions as much as leisure, with two ballrooms and three restaurants doing a lot of the identity work. The public rooms are large, symmetrical, lit for photographs rather than lingering.
Business travellers, events, and anyone who wants full-service formality with a known international standard.
Las Alcobas
Las Alcobas is in Polanco, Mexico City's gallery-and-boutique district on Avenida Presidente Masaryk, a smaller property with 35 individually decorated rooms rather than a standard floor plan repeated upward. The listing leans on that word deliberately: each room different, iPod docks and flat-screens as period detail from when this was cutting-edge, a single restaurant rather than three. It reads as a design hotel scaled to a boutique footprint, with a rooftop as its one clear amenity edge, in a neighbourhood built for walking to restaurants and galleries rather than convention business.
Couples or design-minded travellers who want a small, individually furnished hotel in a walkable gallery district.
Las Alcobas, despite costing more, has no listed hot tub or pet policy and only one restaurant against the St. Regis's three plus ballrooms; its edge is the rooftop and its smaller, more personal scale.
Las Alcobas is the more characterful place to actually be in, room by room, because it was built as 35 distinct interiors rather than one formula repeated on every floor.

What a wonderful stay! We were upgraded to a beautiful suite room 1001. We also used their airport transportation and Roberto was excellent but so was the other driver. When we arrived the bellmen promptly assisted us with our luggage and we were checkin. We were excited to have seen the nice upgrade (am Ambassador) and they acknowledged my status. The whole stay was magical. The King Cole Bar is a wonderful space

“Treated Like Genuinely Welcomed Guests”
The St. Regis Mexico City is an outstanding hotel, and we can't recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like genuinely welcomed guests. That began at check-in, where the team took real care with our room selection, and it continued throughout our stay — there was always someone asking whether there was anything they could do to make our visit more enjoyable. That kind of consistent, at

“Impeccable rooms, perfect service”
The St Regis has the best service of any hotel in Mexico City. The rooms are impeccable, and the security is top notch. The terrace of the restaurant is lovely for a relaxed brunch any day (or every day) of the week. Special thanks to Iliana at the front desk for her outstanding hospitality and kindness.
