Wow, what an absolutely fabulous place! It’s exactly what we hoped for - peace and tranquility. The staff are superb and cannot do enough for you. The most instagram worthy place I have ever been to! Of note for those planning a trip, we stayed in the ‘low season’ (I.e. July/August). The hotel was only 20-30% full which made the stay feel even more intimate. We guess people are put off by the temperatures in Marr

Kasbah Tamadot, up in Asni at the foot of the Atlas, is pricier at $1,491 and further from the city, but its 9.8 rating from a small pool of reviewers suggests something close to flawless for those wanting seclusion. La Mamounia sits in central Marrakech, costs less at $1,285, carries a 9.0 rating across 119 reviews, and puts you steps from the medina and the souks. Book Kasbah Tamadot for a mountain escape with no interest in city life; book La Mamounia if you want to be in Marrakech itself, with the walls of the old town outside the gate.
Kasbah Tamadot
Richard Branson's Kasbah Tamadot began as a Berber house bought and expanded into a hilltop retreat in the Atlas foothills, all rammed earth tones, carved cedar doors and Berber textiles against the raw scale of the mountains. Terraces and infinity-edge pools look straight onto snow-capped peaks for much of the year, and the interiors lean into a lived-in, collected feel — kilim rugs, brass lanterns, open fires in the sitting rooms rather than any hard luxury gloss. It's the kind of place where the landscape does most of the talking and the building steps back to let it.
Kasbah Tamadot suits travellers who want silence, mountain air and a slower pace away from the city, with transfer time built into the plan.
La Mamounia
La Mamounia is the grande dame of Marrakech, built in 1923 and reworked over the decades, most famously by Jacques Garcia, who layered the original Art Deco bones with intense colour, marquetry, hand-carved stucco and acres of local zellige tilework. The gardens are genuinely historic, centuries-old olive and orange trees predating the hotel itself, and the bars and lounges have hosted everyone from Churchill to touring rock stars. It's a hotel that performs Marrakech at full volume — gilt, velvet, latticework shadow — for a crowd that wants to feel the city's history pressing in from every surface.
La Mamounia suits travellers who want to be inside Marrakech itself, walking distance from the souks and the Koutoubia, with the hotel as a grand stage rather than a retreat.
Neither facility list shows the other lacking anything specific — both offer spa, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis and poolside bars — so the real difference is address and atmosphere: La Mamounia's four bars and central position against Kasbah Tamadot's isolation and mountain views, at a $206 lower nightly rate.
La Mamounia is the more theatrically beautiful building, dense with craft and history in every corner, but Kasbah Tamadot is the more moving place to simply sit still in, with the Atlas mountains doing what no amount of zellige can.

“Best stay of our life. ”
I’ve traveled the world nonstop for 45 years — a new country every month — and *Kasbah Tamadot* is hands down my favorite hotel of all time. From the tea to the perfect pool temperature, everything is done with care. The atmosphere is magical, peaceful, and stunning. But the real standout is the *service* — they truly care. You’re not just another guest here. Unforgettable in every way.
We love our stay, fabulous staff. Don’t forget to have a tea in the courtyard with Muhammed.
