The honest take

These are 45km apart and answer different questions, so start there. Royal Mansour, in the Marrakech medina, is $2,866 a night with four restaurants, three bars, pet allowance, golf access and a rooftop; Kasbah Tamadot, up in Asni in the foothills of the High Atlas, is $1,527 with two restaurants, a spa and both indoor and outdoor pools. Both score 9.8, though Royal Mansour's rating rests on ten times the reviews. If you want Marrakech itself, book Royal Mansour; if you want the mountains and quiet, book Kasbah Tamadot and treat the medina as a day trip.

The look and the feel

Royal Mansour Marrakech

Royal Mansour was built as a private village of riads inside the medina walls, each one with its own plunge pool and roof terrace, connected by underground tunnels the staff use so guests never see them working. The craftsmanship is the whole point: zellige tilework, carved cedar, tadelakt plaster polished to a soft sheen, hand-cut stucco muqarnas overhead. It reads as a modern palace built by traditional Moroccan artisans rather than a hotel dressed up to look old, and the effect in the lobby and gardens is hushed, formal, almost ceremonial. The clientele matches it: discreet money, honeymooners with a big budget, people who want Marrakech without touching the street.

Royal Mansour suits travellers who want to be inside Marrakech's medina with palace-level privacy and service and don't mind paying heavily for it.

Kasbah Tamadot

Kasbah Tamadot is a converted kasbah in the Atlas foothills, all thick whitewashed walls, carved wooden doors and Berber textiles, terraces looking straight at snow-capped peaks for much of the year. It trades the medina's density for open air and mountain light, with tented rooms in the grounds alongside the main house for guests who want to feel further out. The pace is slower and more informal than a city palace hotel, with the pools and tennis court doing more work than the restaurants.

Kasbah Tamadot suits travellers who want mountain scenery, pools and a slower pace within reach of Marrakech rather than in the thick of it.

Kasbah Tamadot has no golf access, no pet allowance and no rooftop space to name against Royal Mansour's list, and runs on two restaurants and one pool set-up rather than four restaurants and three bars.

Royal Mansour is the more extraordinary piece of design, a walled village of artisan-built riads that few hotels anywhere can match, but Kasbah Tamadot's mountain setting is the more beautiful place to simply sit still.

“Perhaps the best hotel in the world”

This may just be the best hotel in the world. The room space and design is truly unparalleled. Every restaurant is life changing and the relaxed bar is the perfect place to unwind. The spa is lovely too and getting lost in the gardens is simply a treat at every corner.

“An Unforgettable Riad Experience”

Delivers an experience that feels completely unique. Staying in a private riad offered an incredible sense of privacy, with exquisite Moroccan craftsmanship at every turn and service that was warm, intuitive, and flawlessly executed. The dining was a highlight throughout my stay. Breakfast featured an exceptional selection of Moroccan specialties alongside fresh pastries, seasonal fruit, made-to-order egg dishes, an

“This is what perfection in hospital looks like”

The Royal Mansour is one of a kind. I’ve been to Marrakech before and thus didn’t leave the hotel for two days in order to fully enjoy the individual Riad which sets a standard beyond luxury.

There’s nothing not to dislike other than that you eventually have to leave this paradise

Wow, what an absolutely fabulous place! It’s exactly what we hoped for - peace and tranquility. The staff are superb and cannot do enough for you. The most instagram worthy place I have ever been to! Of note for those planning a trip, we stayed in the ‘low season’ (I.e. July/August). The hotel was only 20-30% full which made the stay feel even more intimate. We guess people are put off by the temperatures in Marr

“Best stay of our life. ”

I’ve traveled the world nonstop for 45 years — a new country every month — and *Kasbah Tamadot* is hands down my favorite hotel of all time. From the tea to the perfect pool temperature, everything is done with care. The atmosphere is magical, peaceful, and stunning. But the real standout is the *service* — they truly care. You’re not just another guest here. Unforgettable in every way.

We love our stay, fabulous staff. Don’t forget to have a tea in the courtyard with Muhammed.
